Johnny “Hook” Daniels was the youngest of the original 25 Highwaymen inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2004. He was the younger brother of Willie Daniels, also an original member of the group. Alfred Hair, the first of the Highwaymen, taught Johnny how to paint. He was probably 13 or 14 when he started painting. Daniels actually started by making frames for Alfred Hair and his brother and gradually learned painting from watching their techniques.
He painted with a lot of detail and liked to paint animals — bears, fish and birds. The Daniels brothers lived in Fort Pierce, Florida.
